Years ago I spent part of the winter alone in our house in Maine. The first storm came earlier than I expected, and I damn near froze because the wind came in under the house and right up through the floor. The next day I started cutting pine boughs and banking them around the house. As soon as it snowed I had a natural barrier, and the house was much warmer.
