Israeli authorities detained 400 Palestinians in the month of January, or around 13 per day, an Arab rights group has said.

According to a statement by the Arab Group for Development and National Empowerment, the 400 detainees included around 57 individuals who were less than 18 years old as well as 18 women.

The group said that most of the detainees were from the West Bank and Jerusalem, but 15 of them were Gazans include four fishermen who were detained while working. Another four were businessmen and merchants detained at the Erez crossing into Israel .

A German judge last week equated condemnation of Zionism with anti-Semitism, undercutting the arguments of many who claim that hostile criticism of Israel is not the same as hating the Jews.

In judging the case of 24-year-old Taylan Can, a German citizen of Turkish decent known for is anti-Israel activism, Judge Gauri Sastry refused to allow the defendant to hide behind the notion of legitimate criticism of the Jewish state.

In Israel haben führende Vertreter der rund 1,7 Millionen arabischen Staatsbürger für Dienstag einen landesweiten Generalstreik ausgerufen. Der Protest richtet sich gegen Einsätze der Polizei, bei denen in den vergangenen Tagen zwei Beduinen getötet wurden.

After police killings, anger simmers in Negev Bedouin villages

The killing of two Bedouin youths in southern Israel by police over the last week has shocked the nation's Palestinian community and has brought storms of protest across the country.

The killing of Sami al-Jaar, 22, last Tuesday during a raid on Rahat triggered a strong reaction across the Arab communities of the Negev, and his funeral reportedly drew 10,000. When Israeli police cars drove into the funeral march, they found themselves pelted with rocks.

Police subsequently opened fire on mourners with tear gas canisters and rubber bullets, and in the ensuing melee Sami al-Zayadna, 45, fell dead in the crowd. Leaders of the 1.7 million Palestinian citizens of Israel -- of whom the Bedouins are a part -- declared a national strike in response, expanding the scope of the battle with authorities from the isolated villages of the Negev to the entire country.

The story of Morocco's Jewish community told from the perspective of those who have left, stayed or are now returning.

Jews first began to settle in Morocco over 2,000 years ago and for centuries they and Muslims have happily co-existed there. Morocco was once home to the largest Jewish community in the Arab world and at its peak had a quarter of a million Jews.
But after Israel was founded in 1948, things changed.
Fear that Morocco's eventual independence from France would lead to the persecution of the country's Jews, plus a desire to bolster Israel's population, led to a large-scale emigration movement.

Moroccan Jews were persuaded to leave their homes and move to Israel. Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency, played a key role in convincing thousands of Moroccan Jews that they were in danger and covertly facilitated their departure.

According to Fanny Mergui, a political activist and Moroccan Jew returnee, the community felt "very threatened." She says "Zionist propaganda was very intense."
Some Jews resisted the Mossad initiative and stayed in Morocco, but most left. Today, only about 2,000 Jews remain.

For those who left, their new life in Israel was not necessarily what they had imagined and many felt marginalised there. Even today, their ties to Morocco remain strong.

Ein schwerer Wintersturm, der in letzte Woche die Region östlich des Mittelmeers heimsucht . Im Gazastreifen, wo nach letzte israelische angreiffen in Gaza , weiter mehr als 100.000 Menschen nicht in ihre durch Bombardements zerstörten oder beschädigten Wohnungen zurückkehren konnten, ging am Mittwoch und Donnerstag heftiger Eisregen nieder. Sturmböen und Hagelschauer peitschten um die Notunterkünfte.

Weil das einzige Kraftwerk in dem Küstenstreifen aus Brennstoffmangel nur sechs Stunden pro Tag Strom liefert, sitzen die Menschen bei Kerzenschein und mit Holzfeuern in ihren Zelten und provisorischen Hütten, die sie mit Sandsäcken gegen eindringendes Wasser schützen. Nur etwas komfortabler haben es die 17.000 Flüchtlinge, die weiter in UN-Schulräumen leben.

On December 11, 1917, a mere two days after the above letter was written, British General Edmund Allenby entered Jerusalem triumphantly through the Jaffa gate, and the city became an occupied territory. On this historic occasion, Allenby reportedly declared that "the wars of the crusades are now complete". Allenby's statement is a powerful reminder that the British entry into Jerusalem was a continuation of and a "successful" conclusion to the Crusades. Certainly, Allenby's statement introduces a critical epistemic connection between the modern British colonial project in Palestine and the Crusades of the 11-14th century.

But rather, the Nazification of Israel, which has, I believe, corrupted, shamed, distorted, betrayed Judaism in all its historical reaching heavenward in the praising of God and its secular and cultural aspirations to freedom and democracy, in contrast to Israel’s own militarization of religion through arrogance, hubris, superiority complex, leading to contemptuous disregard of all that stands in its way—even the kibbutz integrated into the security system which feeds on population displacement and unimpeded fury directed to the Enemy, within as well as without.

Ein palästinensischer Minister ist nach einem Angriff israelischer Soldaten im Westjordanland gestorben. Siad Abu Ain (55) habe bei Auseinandersetzungen in einem Dorf nördlich von Ramallah Tränengas eingeatmet, erklärte der Leiter eines örtlichen Krankenhauses am Mittwoch. Er habe einen Erstickungsanfall erlitten und sei dann in der Klinik an einem Herzstillstand gestorben, sagte Ahmed Beitawi vor Journalisten in Ramallah. Eine Autopsie sei geplant.
