ABDULRAZZAQ AND ROK FLORJANCIC LOOKING TO MAINTAIN SEASON-DOMINANCE IN DOHA

Tuesday, 12 November, DOHA (Qatar): Kuwait’s Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq and
Slovenia’s Rok Florjancic remain unbeaten in their respective categories
at the season mid-point and look to be cruising and on a perfect course
to World titles.

With just two events remaining riders are preparing for this week’s
Grand Prix of Qatar [13-16] in Doha, round 3 [Runabout & Ski GP1 and
4 [Freestyle] of the UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship.

The 33-year-old Kuwaiti rider has been a revelation this season and has
dominated in Runabout GP1, but it is not simply his four wins and Grand
Prix titles in Italy and China that have impressed, but the manner in
which in each outing he has decimated a world-class field of riders.

Jeremy Perez heads a trio of French riders, including last year’s Doha
Grand Prix winner Cyrille Lemoine and defending World Champion Francois
Medori, who so far this season have simply had no answer to the pace of
the Kuwaiti star.

With a maximum 100 points from four races Abdulrazzaq is 32-points
clear of Perez in the title race with Lemoine a further eight points
adrift in third.

In the spectacular Freestyle category the Slovenian ace from Maribor is
in a different league to his rivals and with six heat wins from six
after two events in China and one in Italy, is on a maximum 150 points
at the top of the table, 37-points clear of defending World Champion his
younger brother Nac.

The Ski GP1 category for men is not so clear cut with three riders in
with a shout at the title; Spain’s Nacho Armillas and Portugal’s Tiago
Sousa have both racked up double heat wins and lifted a Grand Prix title
apiece this season, but it is Italy’s Mr Consistent Alberto Monti who
with four second place finishes leads the title race on 80-points, one
ahead of Armillas with Sousa in third on 60.

In the Ladies division Slovenia’s Pija Sumer leads the title race after
a double heat win in China following a surprise defeat in the
season-opener to French rider Jennifer Menard and leads Marta Sorrentino
by 23-points.

This week’s Aquabike Grand Prix of Qatar gets underway tomorrow with
rider registration and technical scrutineering to kick-start a ten-day
festival of speed in the Qatari capital.

Powerboats take over on 20-21 November with Nations Cup followed by
round four of the F1H2O World Championship and the F-4S Eurofin Trophy
on 21-23.

SIX SECOND MARGIN PUTS ABDULRAZZAQ ON POLE IN RUNABOUT GP1 IN DOHA

·       Poret quickest in Ski GP1

·       45 Riders from 15 countries set out to fight for Qatar GP title

Thursday, 14 November, DOHA (Qatar): Kuwait’s Youssef Al Abdulrazzaq
destroyed his rivals in today’s official qualifying in Runabout GP1 to
take pole position for heat 1 by over six seconds from French duo
Cyrille Lemoine and Teddy Pons.

Mickael Poret went quickest in Ski GP1, his two main rivals Alberto
Monti and Tiago Sousa finishing second and third. Pija Sumer again
outpaced some of her male peers and will start heat 1 from the front row
after posting the fifth overall best time to qualify for Q2 despite not
posting a time in the session after breaking a steering cable.

Forty five riders from 15 countries took to the waters of Doha Bay to
kick-start their bids to win the Aquabike Grand Prix of Qatar on a
hectic first day of racing with first practice in the morning followed
by a pre-qualifying session for Runabout GP1 and official qualifying
across all categories in the afternoon.

The blue riband category, Runabout GP1, boasted the biggest entry with
27 lining-up, the numbers swelled by additional entries for round 3,
with four riders from Kuwait, six from Qatar and one each from the
Lebanon and the UAE.

The practice sessions gave the riders their first opportunity to
familiarise themselves with the circuits; a 31-pin 2.24km course for
Runabout and a 27-pin 1.81km course for Ski – both running
anticlockwise.

In the two separate practice sessions in Runabout, Kuwait’s Khalid
Burbaye topped the time sheets with 1:54.25s in group 1, Spain’s Jordi
Tomas Jimenez  going quickest of all in the morning session in group 2
with 1:53.16s.

With 25 the maximum number of riders eligible to compete in Runabout,
twelve Middle East riders lined-up for a 30-minute pre-qualifying
session with ten to go through, Qatar’s Mubarak Alkhelaifi well off the
pace and failing to make the cut, his countryman Jassim Alsooj also
going out after failing to start.

It was a good session for Mohamad Burbayae a highway patrolman from
Kuwait city, easing into official qualifying with the fastest time of
1:44.67s, his cousin Khalid second quickest ahead of Qatar’s Mohamad Al
Haidus.

But in official qualifying it was all about the Championship leader
Abdulrazzaq who after dominating in the first 15-minute session, which
saw 15 riders side-lined, by over five seconds went even better in the
final session posting a time of 1:44.28s, 6.16seconds faster than
France’s Cyrille Lemoine, who threw his arms up in the air in
desperation when he saw the times.

His countryman Teddy Pons edged into the top three towards the end of
the session and will be joined on the front row by Italy’s Mattia
Fracasso and Poland’s Andrzej Wisniewski.

The disappointing news in Ski GP 1 is that title contender Spaniard
Nacho Armillas is missing from the line up and out through an injury he
picked up in an event in China, leaving Alberto Monti, Tiago Sousa and
Mickael Poret to fight it out, Poret going quickest in practice with
1:40.14s

Slovenia’s Pija Sumer easily outpaced Italian Marta Sorrentino, her time of 1:51.71 fourth quickest overall.

In qualifying Poret grabbed his second win of the year and continued
where he left off in the morning to gain the advantage over his rivals
in heat 1 tomorrow and starts from pole after setting the quickest time,
1.37.28s, in the second 10 minute session, five of the ten riders
eliminated in Q1.

Tiago Sousa went quickest in Q1 but was unable to match the Frenchman
in the final session but will start ahead of Championship leader Alberto
Monti with Slaven Ivancic fourth quickest.

Seven riders will line up for heat 1 in Freestyle, five including three
Qatari newcomers, facing the daunting task of trying to match the
skills of Rok and Nac Florjancic.

There was disappointment earlier in the day for Valerio Calderoni, the
Italian nursing a shoulder injury, who broke his engine and is out of
the Grand Prix.

Tomorrow’s action starts with a 70-minute free practice session at
10.00hrs followed by heat 1 of Ski GP1 at 14.30hrs with Freestyle at
14.30hrs and Runabout GP1 at 15.15hrs.

The day will end with a spectacular night show held under lights which
starts at 19.00hrs with Parallel Slalom for Runabout and Ski, followed
by the Freestylers.

Qualifying results:

Runabout GP1

1. 12  Y Al Abdulrazzaq (kwt) - 1:44.28s

2. 9  C Lemoine (fra) - 1:50.44s

QATAR GRAND PRIX TITLES FOR LEMOINE, SOUSA, FLORJANCIC AND SUMER

Saturday, 16 November, DOHA (Qatar): An afternoon of drama and
spectacular racing saw France’s Cyrille Lemoine and Italy’s Alberto
Monti claim wins in the second heats of Runabout and Ski GP1, with
Slovenia’s Rok Florjancic producing yet another sensational performance
to take his second win of the weekend to win the Freestyle Grand Prix
title and clinch the UIM-ABP World title for the first time.

Lemoine’s untroubled flag-to-finish win completed an impressive weekend
for the rider from the South of France, his Doha win-double giving him
the Grand Prix title and moving him into the lead in the title race,
after his main rival in the fight for the Championship, Yousef Al
Abdulrazzaq, was sensationally black-flagged on lap 3 for a driving
infringement, compounding an already bad weekend for the Kuwaiti rider
after failing to pick up points yesterday.

Italy’s Mattia Fracasso confirmed his return to form with another
second place after a thrilling race-long fight to hold off Kuwait’s
Mohamad Al Baz, the pair finishing second and third overall.

Monti’s first win of the season was the perfect response by the Italian
after yesterday’s disappointment and keeps him very much in contention
in the title race and is now just two points off the leader Tiago Sousa.
But it was Portugal’s Sousa, who despite finishing third today behind
Frenchman Mickael Poret, who took the Grand Prix title by one point from
Poret, with Croatia’s Slaven Ivancic third overall.

Pija Sumer took the title with maximum points in the ladies category
after finishing well ahead of her only rival Marta Sorrentino.

Runabout’s new Championship leader grabbed control of the race from the
start, leading from pole position and knowing that Abdulrazzaq would
have to fight his way through the pack of riders from the back. But the
Kuwaiti lasted just three laps after being shown the black flag.

By the mid-point of the 13-lap race the Frenchman was 14-seconds clear
and in complete control and was able to go on to close out the win.
Behind him a thrilling three-way fight developed between Mattia
Fracasso, Qatar’s Mohamad Al Haidus and Kuwait’s Mohmad Al Baz, the
Qatari dropping out of contention after he was passed by Jeremy Perez.

Fracasso and Al Baz carried their fight all the way to the chequered
flag, the Italian edging it by just two seconds, with Perez coming home a
distant fourth.

Poland’s Andrzej Wisniewski enjoyed a race long fight with Francois
Medori, getting the better of the defending Champion on the final lap to
take fifth.

In Ski, Tiago Sousa took full advantage of starting from pole and led
his World title rivals Mickael Poret and Alberto Monti, who had moved up
into third spot after stating at the back of the pack, at the end of
lap one.

The Portuguese rider dominated the early laps and was 10-seconds clear
when his bike started to lose power. Behind him Monti kept the pressure
on Poret, forcing the Frenchman into making an uncharacteristic mistake
missing a turn-mark, which proved costly and he was passed by Monti on
lap 7.

Monti immediately set his sights on the race leader, overhauling him a
lap later to steal the win and get his title challenge back on course
after yesterday’s DNF. There was more trouble for Championship leader
Sousa who was caught and passed by Poret on the final lap.

Slaven Ivancic and Pija Sumer repeated their heat 1 duel with Ivancic
turning the tables on Sumer, passing her on the penultimate lap of nine
to finish in fourth. Josef Bohuslav ran a solitary race in fifth to
finish ahead of Szep Attila.

The Freestyle show again belonged to Rok Florjancic who left the
spectators speechless as he rounded off another 93.5 point performance
with a breath taking series of 20 consecutive backflips, his remarkable
agility rewarded with his first UIM-ABP World title, and he remains
unbeaten in eight Grand Prix.

Nac Florjancic finished second overall despite finishing third in heat 2 behind Qatar’s Sultan al Kuwari.

RUNABOUT AND SKI TITLES TO BE DECIDED IN ABU DHABI

Wednesday, 27 November: The Runabout GP1 and Ski GP1 UIM-ABP Aquabike
World titles will go down to the wire and be decided in the final Grand
Prix of the year in the United Arab Emirate of Abu Dhabi on 1 December.

The Aquabike riders will join teams and competitors from the F1H2O,
Class 1 and Nations Cup World Championships to take part in the Emirati
capital city’s International Water Sport’s Festival, running from the 28
November to the 6 December

What looked like being a straight run to a first UIM-ABP World title in
Runabout for Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq dramatically turned on its head at
the last event in Qatar when the Kuwaiti star,  who until that point was
unbeaten in 2013, stopped in heat one and then disqualified from heat
two.

France’s multiple World Champion Cyrille Lemoine took full advantage of
his rivals nightmare weekend in Doha, winning both heats to catapult to
the top of the standings and will line up in Abu Dhabi holding the
whip-hand with a 10 point advantage over the Kuwaiti.

Still very much in the title hunt is fellow-Frenchman Jeremy Perez
whose consistency this season with six top-four finishes puts him just
three points behind Abdulrazzaq and 13 off the leader. For defending
Champion Francois Medori the title is still mathematically possible but
he will need the three ahead of him to suffer some sort of
mechanical-meltdown.

The Ski title decider looks to be a straight fight between the 2013
UIM-ABP European Champion Tiago Sousa and Alberto Monti, just two points
separating the Portuguese and Italian riders.

Three riders have topped the points so far this season; Spain’s Nacho
Armillas led after the season-opener in Italy, but was dislodged by
Monti in Italy, with Sousa taking his second Grand Prix title in Qatar
to take over top spot.

With Armillas side-lined through injury in Qatar and unlikely to start
in Abu Dhabi, the outsider for the title is Mickael Poret, but he needs
to make up a 28-point deficit.

Slovenia's Pija Sumer is odds on favourite to lift the Ski Ladies title
and is currently 33 points clear of Italy’s Marta Sorrentino.

The only rider in the Aquabike Championship who can relax in Abu Dhabi
is the newly crowned Freestyle World Champion Rok Florjancic from
Slovenia, who stripped his younger brother Nac, the defending Champion,
of the title in Doha after picking up his eighth consecutive heat win
and fourth Grand Prix title of the year.

The first action for the riders is free practice on Saturday, 30
November at 10.00hrs [local] followed by official qualifying at 15.30hrs
[local

FRANCE OR KUWAIT – WHO WILL WIN THE RUNABOUT WORLD TITLE

Saturday, 30 November, ABU DHABI (UAE): France’s Cyrille Lemoine and
Kuwait’s Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq  will go head-to-head in the Abu Dhabi
Grand Prix in a winner-takes-all World title decider.

Ten points separates the two class acts of the 2013 season and each has
one hand on the cup, but it is Lemoine who holds the advantage heading
into the final two heats tomorrow.

Abdulrazzaq dominated in Italy and in China winning all four heats and
both GP titles, but hit big trouble in Qatar failing to pick up points.

After three runners-up slots and one DNF Lemoine hit back to win twice
and take the Qatar Grand Prix title and move ahead in the title race.

However, should either or both of the two front-runners slip up,
Frenchman Jeremy Perez could jump them both to steal the title, and sits
just 13 points off the leader Lemoine and three behind Abdulrazzaq

ABDULRAZZAQ QUICKEST IN QUALIFYING BUT HAUNTED BY ENGINE PROBLEMS

·       Mickael Poret outshines title contenders Sousa and Monti in Ski

Saturday, 30 November, ABU DHABI (UAE): Today it was the turn of the
UIM-ABP Aquabike World Championship to take centre stage in the Abu
Dhabi International Water Sports Festival.

Forty-eight riders from 13 countries took to the waters in front of Abu
Dhabi’s spectacular corniche for the opening salvos in the final Grand
Prix of the year, with the world titles in Runabout GP1 and Ski GP1
coming down to the wire, to be decided in tomorrow’s final two races of
the season.

In the blue riband Runabout it is France versus Kuwait and a three way
fight between the championship leader Cyrille Lemoine, Yousef Al
Abdulrazzaq and Jeremy Perez, the trio separated by just 13 points.

In qualifying there were few surprises in the first 20 minute session
with all the top riders easing into Q2, the notable absentees who failed
to make the top ten cut were Italians Mattia Fracasso and Lorenzo
Benaglia in eleventh and twelfth.

A close second session saw the top three riders split by less than 5/10
tenths but it is the Kuwaiti Al Abdulrazzaq who goes into tomorrow’s
double-header with the advantage, his time of  1:24.05s set on his only
flying lap putting him in pole position for race 1.

But it may have come at a cost after he was forced to pull out with an
engine problem and there were concerned faces in the Kuwaiti camp as
they started to work on his bike.

Championship leader Cyrille Lemoine will have to make up ground and
starts from third place after his time of 1:24.51s was bettered in the
closing stages by UAE rider Khalifa Belselah by 4/100ths, with Jeremy
Perez facing an uphill task to keep his title hopes alive, starting from
fifth.

It was a good session for the Middle East riders with five posting top
ten times, Kuwait’s Mohamed Burbaye claiming fourth spot and the Qatari
duo, Waleed Al Sharshani and Abdullah Fadel in seventh and tenth.

With 25 the maximum of riders eligible to take to the water in
qualifying and in tomorrow’s race, a pre-qualifying session took place
earlier in the day with 11 riders fighting for the available nine
places.

Mohamed Burbaye and the Khalifa Belselah dominated the session, Burbaye
topping the time sheets with 1:27.18seconds, just over a tenth quicker
than Belselah, Qatar’s Waleed Al Sharshani going third quickest.

With France’s Sebastien Touyeras failing to start just one would be
eliminated, the unfortunate Mohammed Moshen the rider failing to make
the cut.

Portugal’s Tiago Sousa has the upper hand in Ski but leads by just two
points from Italy’s Alberto Monti, and both were overshadowed in
qualifying by France’s Mickael Poret who claimed his third pole position
of the year, going quickest in 1:20.61s, with Sousa second.

Monti finds himself up against it and starts from fourth behind Abu
Dhabi resident Ludo Caumont making his one and only appearance in the
Championship.

Slovenia’s Pija Summer is the odds on favourite in the Ladies division
and was again impressive, just failing to make it out of Q1 but again
showing a handful of her male peers the way round, posting the sixth
fastest time, her only rival Marta Sorretino starting from ninth place.

With the Freestyle World title already in the hands of Slovenia’s Rok
Florjancic tomorrow is all about filling the podium places, the fight
between Nac Florjancic and Serbia’s Aleksandar Petrovic, and to see if
any of the six Middle East entries can cause an upset.

Qualifying results:

Runabout GP1

1. 12  Y Al Abdulrazzaq (kwt) - 1:24.05s

2. 3  K Belselah (uae) - 1:24.47s

3. 9  C Lemoine (fra) - 1:24.51s

4. 20  M Burbaye (kwt) - 1:25.30s

5. 86 J Perez (fra) - 1:27.30s

6. 7  W Al Sharshani (qat) - 1:27.48s

Ski GP1

1. 77  M Poret (fra) - 1:20.61s

2. 82  T Sousa (prt) - 1:22.16s

3. 6  L Caumont (fra) – 1:22.91s

4. A  Monti (ita) - 1:25.75s

ABDULRAZZAQ AND SOUSA EDGE CLOSER TO RUNABOUT AND SKI WORLD TITLES

Sunday, 1 December, ABU DHABI (UAE): Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq has put
himself into a commanding position in the chase for the Runabout World
title after winning race 1 in Abu Dhabi with his main rival Cyrille
Lemoine stopping on lap 10 of 16.

The Kuwaiti’s comprehensive start-to-finish victory moves him to the
top of the standings, 15 points clear of Lemoine, now tied in second
spot with fellow Frenchman Jeremy Perez who finished fourth behind
Khalifa Belselah and Mohamad Burbaye.

Portugal’s Tiago Sousa edged closer to the Ski title after finishing in
third ahead of his closest challenger Italy’s Alberto Monti, the duo
now separated by five points.

Race1 honours went to Abu Dhabi resident Ludo Caumont with Mickael Poret finishing second.

With the final race of the season just hours away it is a
winner-takes-all scenario in both Runabout and Ski with the two biggest
prizes in World Aquabike racing up for grabs - in Runabout it is Kuwait
versus France and in Ski Portugal versus Italy.

ABDULRAZZAQ WINS RUNABOUT WORLD TITLE – PORET WINS SKI TITLE

·       Sousa and Monti disqualified

·       Rok Florjancic maintains perfect win record

·       Sumer lifts Ladies crown

Sunday, 1 December, ABU Dhabi (UAE): Kuwaits’s Yousef Al Abdulrazzaq
and France’s Mickael Poret were crowned UIM-ABP Aquabike World Champions
in their respective categories, Runabout GP 1 and Ski GP1, after a
dramatic and nail biting final day in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with the
title races going down to the final race of the season.

The Runabout title race turned on its head in race 1 when Championship
leader Cyrille Lemoine stopped on lap 10 of 16, his main rival
Abdulrazzaq taking the win to turn the tables to take a 15 point lead
going into the final race.

The UAE’s Khalifa Belselah finished second ahead of Kuwait’s Mohamed
Burbaye, with Jeremy Perez taking fourth and moving in to second spot
alongside Lemoine in the points table, but his title hopes ended in race
2, retiring on lap 3.

The Kuwaiti hit the front in race 2 on lap 6 after the early race
leader Belselah retired, but was overhauled by a hard charging Lemoine
on the penultimate lap of 16, after a brilliant drive by the Frenchman
from the back of the grid. But second place was enough to secure the
World title for the Kuwaiti by ten points.

Qatar’s Waleed Al Sharshani grabbed his best result to finish in third ahead of Poland’s Andrezj Wisniewski.

But the real drama of the afternoon focussed on the outcome of the Ski Championship.

The young Portuguese rider Tiago Sousa took the chequered flag in both
races in third place ahead of his immediate rival Alberto Monti and
looked to have won the title.

But both riders were later sensationally disqualified from the event
after their bikes failed post-race scrutineering handing the World title
to a somewhat stunned Mickael Poret, who finished second in both races
to fellow Frenchman and Abu Dhabi resident Ludo Caumont, with Croatia’s
Slaven Ivancic elevated to third overall.

Pija Sumer lifted the Ladies Grand Prix title and Championship crown,
taking maximum points in all races in 2013 except one, a DNF in Italy.

After clinching the Freestyle World Championship in Qatar, Slovenia’s
Rok Florjancic rounded of his season by adding the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix
title to maintain his record of maximum points at each Grand Prix in
2013.

Nac Florjancic finished runner-up in the Championship ahead of
Aleksandar Petrovic, but had to settle for third overall today finishing
behind Qatar’s Sultan Al Kuwari, by far the best of the six-strong
Middle East Freestyle entry.
